Catch up with Jerome Gordon
Catch up with Jerome Gordon - Performance Analyst with Down GAA club St Johns
Introducing Jerome Gordon
Jerome Gordon has worn many hats down through the years with Down club St Johns between playing and coaching and as recently as last year Jerome was the clubs PRO. He has also for a number of years performed the role of Performance Analyst for the club. This year they had great success, winning the league with the senior mens team. We are delighted to catch up with Jerome to get his thoughts on the year gone by.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself Jerome, your background in analysis and role with St Johns this year?
I have been the current Statistical analyst with my own club both senior mens and ladies for the past five years and have been involved in juvenile coaching since 2012.
You have been using Tagger for a while now. Can you describe how you use Tagger? For example, do you mainly use it for live game tagging or post-game video analysis, or both?
Tagger is a great multifunctional application. We use it for both in game analysis and post-game analysis. It gives us Great insight during a live game but also used for Player’s postgame to see any individual stat and clips.
What are some of the key events that you and your management team like to capture during or after the game and what insights do you get from the data that you capture?
So, some of the KPI or key performance indicators that we capture are unforced errors; these are just how many times we give the ball away. This in turn shows us where these are happening by who and what time they are done at and if a score has been made by the opposition by a direct unforced error.
Do you use these insights mainly to help with decision making during a game or do you find it more beneficial post-game to determine things that need to be worked on ahead of the next game?
I would say it’s a combination of both in-game and post-game. As a management team we feel it is important to educate our players so we can improve and develop as a team.
How has the experience been with Tagger? What feature(s) do you like most about Tagger?
My experience has been phenomenal. The one feature I really love is the video studio. I can upload my stats and game video and it will automatically clip the game. This is a great feature for management and players to look at specific KPI.
Overall, what are the key benefits of Tagger for you and the team?
The software used by tagger is second to none with its online database sharing files and statistics has never been easier. Both players and management can use information gathered during live games but also compare it to previous games.
Final Comment by Peter from TeamOppy
Many thanks to Jerome for his contribution to this blog. Jerome was one of the first users of TeamOppy going back to the early days of the original dropbox app and has been brilliant in providing feedback throughout the last couple of years as the software has evolved. We wish Jerome and St Johns all the best going forward to the future.
