Introducing Elliot Foweraker
Elliot Foweraker is the current Director of Hockey at Malvern College. Elliot was one of the very first adopters of TeamOppy Sports Tagger. We caught up with Elliot to get his thoughts.
Can you tell us a bit about your own background and current role(s) with Hockey Wales and Malvern College?
I have recently started as Director of Hockey at Malvern College, after being at Taunton School for 8 years and I was previously the U18 Head Girls coach and senior assistant with Hockey wales.
You have been using Tagger for a number of months now. Can you describe how you use Tagger? For example, do you mainly use it for live game tagging or post game video tagging?
Tagger is a great tool for coaches and managers to support game day and post match analysis. It is accessible and easy to use for people of all levels of knowledge. We have used for both in game analysis and sub management as well as analysis and also post game analysis. We used Tagger at the recent European Championships in Swansea this summer.
What are some of the key events that you like to capture during or after the game and what insights do you get from the data that you capture?
We like to look at structures, so particularly dead ball events like ball starts from various locations, mainly from a 16 hit out or from high line attacking areas to give us some good detail for both on ball and off ball work. Additionally it is great for 25 and circle entries allowing us to work on both sides of attacking and defending this.
Do you use these insights mainly to help with decision making during a game or do you find it more beneficial post-game to determine things that need to be worked on ahead of the next game?
I think a combination, its important to educate players on what actually happened post match to help them improve and develop but also from in game to see what the stats actually say helping give a truer reflection on what is actually happening in the game.
How has the experience been with Tagger? What feature(s) do you like most about Tagger?
I think once your set up it is such a simple process to use, it gives great details without too much effort, its great to be multi platform and web based and it allows for great versatility at competitions.
Overall, what are the key benefits of Tagger for you and the team?
Having used other similar software for years I think the affordability of such a powerful tool is unrivalled, it is also the fact it can be used online, shared and supports a range of exports it has helped no end across the board.
